Hi

Want an update? Here ya go:

Work is going well. I finally got my embroidered scrubs back. So my tops now have our logo on the left and “Laura” on the right. So I don’t look like a newbie anymore! At least not to the patients. I still scream “newbie!” to all the other techs, considering I ask about a million gazillion questions every day. I feel that everything I do, I do fairly well. Right now it’s more just a matter of remembering what to do when. For example: Most patients in for their one-day post-op exam after cataract surgery are not dilated. The exception is patients with the Toric lens. They have to be dilated to check the axis of the implant. And you have to use new dilating drops from bottles that were opened that day. Example 2: All new diabetic patients have to have an Optos done. If they have Medicare, they have to sign an ABN to say that they’ll pay for it because Medicare doesn’t. But if they have private insurance they don’t have to sign an ABN. Either way, a fee sheet for the procedure needs to be filled out. And a letter needs to be sent to their physician telling them about the exam. You got that straight? I don’t.

Went to Black River Lodge last week with the whole Nolan family. It was fun. There’s not a whole lot you can say about Lesterville, Missouri. We floated down the river pretty much everyday. I wore SPF 30 every day so I didn’t have to experience a sunburn like I had from Memorial Day weekend. (Which I was still peeling from last week.) And I did manage to get away without being burned. Although still have a couple of bites that are bugging me- including this big one on my back from a horsefly. Yuck.

We have pictures online. Not sure if it will just work from the URL. But I’ll try. Here it is.
If that doesn’t work I’ll e-mail you an invite or whatever.

On our way out to Missouri we packed up Jim’s apartment and moved it all to storage. It wasn’t too bad since we had six of us to do it. Another link for pictures.

And here’s the Alex info: I don’t know what the last everyone heard was, because it all changes so much. But here’s how things stand right now. He will be going to Louisiana and not Alaska. *sad face* He will be in Maryland for two more weeks. Then he will come home for about 2 and a half weeks. He’ll be working at a recruiting office while he’s here. And then he’ll be headed to Fort Polk for his “permanent” assignment. He will not be deployed this summer or fall- it’s been pushed back. Best guess is sometime next year- and earlier in the year is more likely than later.

Hm, I thought I had something else... but I guess perhaps I'm done. And it's late, so I should go to bed.

Thanks for the update. I was beginning to wonder about the Nolans. I even tried calling Beth once, but then mom told me you were at Black River. Alaska does sound prettier, but Louisianna is closer. I hope everything goes well, and maybe I'll get to see some of you 4th of July weekend.

Loved all the pics of Black River. It looks like a good time. Thanks for sharing with us.

Laura your job sounds like you have a lot of paperwork to learn, but before you know it, it will become second nature.

I'm so glad Alex will be closer to home. You will be able to visit far more.
