Update
Not really much of an update, because not a lot has happened. There has been no real change in Pap-paw's condition. We are waiting to hear the results of an EEG taken today. There is a possibility of "silent" seizures that could be causing him to be unresponsive. They were to also take a trans-cranial Doppler to see about blood flow to the brain. The fact that he has been comatose since Saturday is not good, but we are led to believe there still is the chance that he will "wake up". They confirmed he would at least have weakness on his left side (he is left-handed) which seems minor in comparison to where he is at this point. The longer he lays in a coma the more chance of infection and/or pneumonia. They have yet to remove the neck brace although there appears to be no damage to his neck or collarbone. Since he is not responsive, they cannot remove the ventilator. His heart is strong and his kidney function is good, although he is puffed up like the Pillsbury Doughboy. We're still hoping...!!!

Pap-Paw
Most of you probably know that Alan's dad is in the hospital. He took a bad fall from the stairs onto the hard linoleum (we think he may have blacked out, causing his fall, but not sure). He is suffering from severe head trauma and is not responding as we would like at this time. He has an injury to his right hand and hip (a prior hip replacement likely prevented a broken bone) but they are minor.
There is no reason to believe that he won't recover from his injury, but we are told it is very unlikely that he will recover to his full abilities. His left side seems to be weaker and will probably remain that way. The scans show no further bleeding or swelling, so that is a good sign. He has yet to reopen his eyes since late Saturday afternoon and we are anxious for that to happen. He is kept mildly sedated but periodically taken off the drip to test for any response.
He miraculously survived the fall and had the presence of mind and ability to make it up the stairs and eventually into his bedroom. He had lost a lot of blood and had an alarmingly significant "goose egg" on the back of his head. He was not able to speak very clearly but seemed strongly aware. I can't help but think he walked back up those stairs for a reason.
We have a lot of hope for his recovery, but are hit quite often with the reality of his age. As healthy as he was, he just may not be able to recover from such an extreme shock to his system. Within a few hours of his arrival at Floyd Memorial, we were told (mistakenly) that he had suffered a heart attack; he had stopped breathing, but was resuscitated and intubated. He was transported to Jewish Hospital for possible surgery, but after an angiogram showed there was no aneurysm and no further bleeding, that was thankfully ruled out. Another very grim time waiting for those results... We saw him regress to his current state (which we were told was normal after a severe head trauma)and hopefully await for his body to heal.
Please keep him in your prayers!

Alaska
I'm leaving for Alaska tomorrow morning, I'll be gone for 10 days flying to Seattle and doing some sightseeing there. I'm excited, first time flying by myself. The reason I'm going is because a co-worker was suppose to go with her husband but he had to cancel so they asked me if I wanted to go and you just can't turn and trip like this down.
So I will have my cell phone on me doubt I will get service up there but you can always try calling or text me. 812-989-6308
I'll talk to you all when I get back.

Admin Privileg
fyi...I just gave everyone admin. privileges. I often wondered why some of you didn't just edit your post. Heather informed me yesterday if you just have author privileges you couldn't edit. So know everyone can edit any one's posts....so be nice.
I wish I could have been there helping on Mike's pool. Okay, so I'd probably just get in the way. I miss those things. Now that you all are getting experience, if you want to come down here and put one in that would be great! :)

Extended 6 weeks!
Oh yeah, I get to work on the project another 6 weeks! The go live was moved from February 17th, 2009 to April 1st, 2009. And it is not an April Fools joke. They didn't extend the date because we are 4 weeks behind, but because they are adding additional scope. Enough said. I got to get some work done.
Nothing happened with me this weekend. Last Sunday I did cut my finger while attempting to cook for the first time in forever. I went to the ER Monday morning since it was still bleeding. They said it needed a stitch but after 8 hours they can't stitch it. So they put something on it to stop the bleeding. Gave me a tetanus shot, which makes your arm really sore the next day, and some antibiotics. The finger is still sore, partly because I hit it every now and then. It doesn't look like anything, I can't think of anything the same size, it is bigger than a med. ball point pen head, but smaller than a pea and an pencil eraser.
Samson has been good. He has made a couple of trips to Uncle Mike's and really enjoys going to visit. We got a new leash that attaches to the seatbelt so he can stay in his seat yet can move. He really likes it. I haven't noticed any fleas.

Our Weekend Project
We've had a good first week of school. Haley loves her teacher, who happens to go to church with us, so that's nice.
We actually have a weekend at home, and you know it kills Rob not to have something to do. Even though there are plenty of projects I could find for him, he chose one more fun. He's been talking about doing this for the kids since we moved in. He's up there working on the carpet for the second floor loft right now. I'll post more pics when it's done :)
How fun!! He keeps telling me it's the KIDS clubhouse, not mine ... we'll see ....

JUST A REMINDER AGAIN
Don't forget the Day Family Reunion on August 14th at Lanesville Park. Hope everyone or at least most of you can make it. Love to all,Mom
I'll try to think of something besides work
Actually, I have been doing stuff besides work. It's the cleaning and laundry that doesn't get done, but it didn't get done much anyway.
I'm playing Sand Volleyball on Tuesdays night with a group of people from work. seems they needed girls to play. We haven't won a match yet, and we've only won one game. We let everyone play who wants to, so it isn't very pretty. I will have to cut the season short because I will be going back to school on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Just one class, at 7:30, I should be able to make the class. Just need to make time to do the homework.
Went to the Willie Nelson / Dave Matthews Band concert two Friday's ago. It was extremely hot. I enjoyed Willie. Not too crowded at that time, it was good and relaxing. I thought I new more of Dave Matthews but I didn't know any of their music. I enjoyed the music, but the third time of having beer spilled on me from the girls behind me,it got old.
Yesterday was our last day at KY SPeedway. It was Indy Car races this time. I didn't realize the Indy cars were so little. I thought they looked like oversized go-carts. It was a really nice day and a good race.
Softball on Sundays. Today is the last game. I'm not playing this year. Alpha's daughter finally is old enough that she took my place. She brings her friends when we need extra girls so I don't even have to sub. So I just go to root on the team. Anita figured out this is their 16th year of playing. I think I've been playing for about 8 or 9 off and on.
I have Sam this week. He needs his shots and a haircut and Anna hasn't had time to find a vet down there.

Good to Hear From Someone Again
Glad to see that we have some news. Cheryl, so glad you and Reese had a good time at Rustys. I had to laugh, as I could just see her doing the things you said she done. She is way beyond her years. Will be going somewhere Saturday, but not sure where. Someone will let you know. Mike is busy with the pool so he hasn't been going with us, and I think that they are going to be pouring concrete or whatever they do to the inside of the pool on Saturday as long as the rain holds off. Its looking great. He's been working on it every day this week as he has been on vacation.
Debbie, as you say, we talk all the time, so know much of what you said, but still glad to hear about other things. Glad you asked everyone what was going on. Also glad to hear that you are finally going to get your laptop so you can really get to work. I don't think I told you, but Dr. Pierce died Sunday, he was cremated and did not have any showing. His wife Vicki had a few of us that stuck with him over the years at her house last night. And it was crowded, but was nice. His oldest son, Greg looks exactly like he did. Anyway, I have to get me a new doctor now, no putting it off anymore. Everyone take care and love to all, Mom

Back from Chicago
Reese, Mom and I got home last night. Reese seemed to have a wonderful time. On Friday we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Reese was a little concerned about them not having a elephant. It's really a nice zoo. You would never guess you were in the middle of the city.
On Saturday we went to the beach. It's hard to believe it's not on the ocean considering the waves. Saturday night was Rusty's office party and Reese was all decked out in what she called her party dress. She talked to everyone and was all over the place. Rusty tied a balloon on her wrist so we could keep track of her easier. He has a nice court yard between the office building and what was the garage but is now offices also so she had plenty of room to wonder. She sat at his desk calling herself the executive. When someone new would come in she would say hi, I'm Reese, whats your name. Then she would say nice to meet you and shake their hand. One man there had been a teacher and principal for years and he said she was the most delightful 3 year old he had every met. He couldn't get over how smart she was and her vocabulary. She drew pictures with him like she did Uncle Mike. At one point she had out a homes magazine showing properties to an older lady there. The lady said she was looking for a place so Reese was looking for one for her. They told Rusty he better watch out or Reese would take his job.
Monday was Rusty's birthday (44) so we had a dinner party with 16 people. Reese talked with everyone there and picked out who she wanted to sit with. Needless to say it wasn't me. She did so well with dinner, I was really proud of her. One of the people there ask Mom if she was 5. She made so many new friends and invited them all to visit her at her house.
At one point she said Rusty's house was hers. She walked in the house and said "Uncle Rusty's house is amazing". Not really sure why she thought that but apparently she liked it. I think it was the open space and all the art on the walls. She and Yankee were together all the time. She rode her bike in the living/dinning/kitchen and thought that was great. Yankee would follow her trying to bite her tires or get her off. She thought she was leading Yankee around all the time but I think he was doing as much leading as she was.
We saw our neighbors new Golden (Dixie) tonight. She is 8 weeks old. Reese ask Jeff once again if she could have a puppy. Maybe we won't have to give in to it as long as Powder and Chance are around. Dixie looks a lot like Lexie. If they would just stay little I wouldn't mind. Jeff told her if the neighbors kept getting puppies she could just play with them. Two weeks ago she ask him if she could have a guinea pig. Right now it's hard enough to keep up with her without adding anything else into the mix.
School starts on 9/3 with swimming starting 9/9. Jeff wants to get her into something other than swimming but she doesn't seem to have any interest in sports yet. Maybe we will check out dance or gymnastics. I have also thought about karate. That might help with some of her anger issues but then again she might use the karate on us. She does have plenty of time for outside interest and I don't want her to be involved in to many things so we may hold off for a while longer.
I also have three year old pictures for all of you. I just have to get them sent out. If anyone is going to lunch on Saturday let us know. It's been a while since we have seen any of you.
I hope all of you had wonderful birthdays. Haley, I can't believe you are blogging. You are really growing up fast. Love to all.

Updates Anyone?
guess it's a good thing we have a lot of birthdays or we may not be blogging now.
I heard from LAN support yesterday and they should be finishing up my laptop today and shipping it. I had to give them one of my passwords and I wouldn't do it through an email. So it was 4pm before we finally connected yesterday. He asked if I'd be here to sign for it on Saturday. So I'm not leaving the house until I get it. Seems several laptops that they've shipped never made it to their final destination, so it has to be signed for now. Turns out Pointsec (our encryption software) and power surges don't go together. So once they decrypted my harddrive they were able to retrieve my data. But I'm still getting a new laptop out of it.
FUN STUFF... we caught up with the kids last night at the lake. The dogs love to go swimming and Haley and Will went fishing. They seemed to be jumping on Will's line, but Haley had to really work for it. Will's coming over later to visit with Papaw while Haley and Heather do some girl stuff before school starts tomorrow. Will doesn't go back until September.
Melissa update...she's been accepted to UAB but doesn't think she'll be able to finish paperwork to start this semester. She had about a one day notice to attend an orientation during work hours so she wasn't able to make that. Her advisor is booked until September so she can't meet with her either. She can't find her tax documents either for FAFSA (right initials??) Does anyone know if she can qualify if she is only going to take one class at a time? It looks to me like she has to take at least two to qualify.
QUESTIONS...to get some blogging going...
Mike....how's the pool going?
Chip.....happy birthday (tomorrow)...what have you been doing?
Drew & Jessica....how's your puppies (are they still puppies?)
Charly & Ryan.....update on wedding plans and the house...how's coaching?
Murphy's .....heard Mike had an accident....how's Chris's back....what's David been up to...Eryn do you like the Wii Fit??
Nolan's.....anything happening....I go to facebook to see what the kids are doing, but don't really understand facebook yet.
Barb....I know your just working...Anna getting settled in....John going to any conventions??
Jeff & Cheryl....I know Reese has to be up to something....
Metzgers.....thank you Conner for letting me be your friend on facebook....but what is the rest of the family up to??
Mom & Paul....I call you too much so don't have a question to pose...but like your updates also.
