Blog privacy

Since people have been wondering about the level of privacy of the blog, I did some quick research.

Right now, anyone who makes it to this page can read it. The chances of someone (a) finding it and (b) caring are somewhat slim. You'll notice this if you don't use a link to this page or sign in and use your "dashboard"- it's kinda hard to find even if you're looking for it. But it is out there, and anyone could read it- so do keep that in mind.

We can improve security by making sure "listing" and "let search engines find your blog" settings are off. I'm not sure what the default settings on these are, and I don't have administrator status, so I can't check them. But someone should make sure both of those are off, and it won't change how any of us use the site- we won't even notice. Info here.

We do have the option of making the blog private. Only a certain list of people would be allowed to see the page. This would change things because anyone (even family members) that are reading it now but not signed up to write in it would no longer be allowed to see it. And you'd always have to be signed-in in order to read it. Info here.

We already had "let search engines find your blog" turned off but not the "listing" one. I turned it off. So it is as secure as it can get without forcing everyone to sign in when they read it. You have to know the url to get to it so I hope everyone has this added to favorites.

I never had this added to favorites, so I just did. I think I did, will check when I get off here. Thanks to both for the info.
