Just got my results back from the Berkeley HeartLab. Turns out I'm a carrier of the heart attack gene, as my doctor put it. So I thought I'd share since I'm sure I'm not the only one in the family that was passed this gene. My insulin level was high also. Her prescription for me was 20 minutes of exercise every day where I break out in a sweat and at least 7 fruits/vegetable servings a day (or an antioxidant supplement). Since I can't control genetics I have to control the other 8 risk factors: smoking (no problem there), high cholesterol (gonna work on it), high blood pressure (didn't say anything about almost low blood pressure), physical inactivity (marathon training takes on a whole new meaning), overweight...especially when carried around the stomach (diet and exercise for that to), diabetes (that's the insulin part also controlled by diet), stress (can't quit my job though) and alcohol (actually I should drink more).
Think healthy everyone...we aren't getting any younger.

I've never heard of a heart attack gene. I know Doc had a heart attack, but don't know of anyone else on your Dad's side, so I guess it must be mine. I know Uncle Bill, Uncle Chalk did, Dad they said looked like he had had a mild one at some time, but I don't know when. Not sure on the rest of them except For Aunt Bessie and that was breast cancer. Charlie had lung cancer, Aunt Ebbie, Aunt Emma both had pancreatic cancer and Mom had some kind of stomach condition that caused her death. I guess we need to make up a list for everyone for medical purposes.
Of course I am diabetic now, high blood pressure, cholesterol for some time but it is all controlled by meds. Take care, will talk with you later, Mom
