Disaster averted!

Oh how I love the New Albany sewers. Luckily, the sewer started to back up about 7:30 PM when John was home. The path of least resistance. It seems there was an extra apparently sewer pipe put in over by the washing machine that was filled with concrete.......that has a little whole in it that created a cute little fountain of sewer water that ran down to the plugged up drain. That smelled horribly. So when John opened up the drain, instead of the water going down, it came up.

We quickly borrowed a wet-dry vac from Chris, as I guess we didn't get ours back from the last flood when they decided everything had to go. We managed to keep up with the fountain by keeping it plugged and letting it bubble up around the plug. Then suctioning it up as it came up. We had to empty the wet-dry vac about every 10 - 15 minutes.

Jake from the sewer department was nice, he was new to my house so I told him where they usually go to fix it, and within an hour it was fixed. Scott from the sewer department called me this morning. He admitted that they had been trying to fix the issue other ways besides replacing it, but that he is putting in to have 100 feet replaced. He said there is over 200 feet that actually needs it but 100 feet of it is the worse of it. He said he would turn this in to the board for approval because this is at least the 3rd time that he knows of my basement flooding and his boss has it going back farther that that. He said he would call me to let me know what the board says and that if they don't approve it he will let me know what I need to do to get it approved.....which is getting the neighbors involved.

I hope they get it approved for you and you don't have to start fighting them. Good luck.
